Did You Know? OWIT signs agreement with Canadian Trade Organization In June 2010, OWIT and the Trade Facilitation Office Canada (TFO Canada) signed a letter of cooperation that outlines a number of activities designed to recognize and foster a beneficial relationship between the two organizations. TFO Canada is a non-governmental, non-profit organization which confronts the challenge of global poverty by promoting sustainable economic development through export information, advice and contact (www.tfoc.ca). TFO facilitates access to the Canadian marketplace and shares Canadian trade expertise for the benefit of smaller exporters in developing and emerging countries. TFO has, in particular, been focused on promoting the efforts of businesswomen involved in trade from developing countries through exporter training and coaching programs that it has implemented in several African countries and, currently, in Indonesia. TFO is also very active in several countries, such as Peru, where OWIT has a chapter. Since OWIT and TFO Canada share some common objectives and offer a number of complementary services, the goal of the agreement is to enhance the cooperation between the two organizations. Specifically, OWIT and TFO Canada will promote each organization’s services to businesswomen involved in exporting, explore joint activities including education and mentorship to help expand services for businesswomen in trade in developing countries, and look for ways to contribute to each other’s mandates. This letter of cooperation formalizes a relationship with TFO Canada that began several years ago when TFO Canada facilitated and funded (along with the Canadian International Development Agency), the attendance of businesswomen from developing countries to OWIT conferences in Calgary, Alberta and in Miami, Florida. |
